Our Team

Dr. Alexander Ward was born and raised in Rock Hill, SC. He attended the College of Charleston and graduated with a B.Sc in Biology, minoring in Spanish. Upon receiving his Doctorate of Optometry from the InterAmerican University of Puerto Rico, he was accepted to the prestigious ocular disease residency at the Omni Eye Services of Atlanta. After leaving Atlanta, Dr. Ward practiced a few years with Family Vision in Anderson, SC. He partnered with Dr. Mak and founded Carolina Eye Care in 2010. Dr. Ward specializes in the treatment and management of ocular diseases, and co-management of LASIK and cataract surgeries. Dr. Ward served as president and vice-president of the Piedmont Optometric Association in the past. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, South Carolina Optometric Physicians Association, and the Piedmont Optometric Association. In his spare time, Dr. Ward enjoys camping, swimming, spending time with his family, and working on old British cars.

Dr. Karen Mak received her B.Sc. degree in Cell & Molecular Biology and M.Sc. degree in Cell Biology at the University of Calgary in Canada. She earned her Doctor of Optometry degree at the InterAmerican University of Puerto Rico, where she graduated magna cum laude. Dr. Mak began her optometric externships at the Indiana University School of Optometry Eye Care Center in Guanajuato, Mexico, where she provided care for under-served communities. Her externship at Omni Eye Services in Atlanta provided her confidence in the diagnosis and management of ocular diseases, as well as the co-management of cataract and LASIK pre-operative and post-operative care. After graduation, Dr. Mak practiced primary eye care in Atlanta, Greenville, and Anderson. Dr. Mak served as president and vice-president of the Piedmont Optometric Association. She is a member of the American Optometric Association, South Carolina Optometric Physicians Association, and the Piedmont Optometric Association. During Dr. Mak’s free time, she enjoys traveling, spending time on the lake, and staying busy with her family.

Cassie is our friendly patient coordinator. She has been in the industry for almost ten years and is very knowledgeable and can answer most questions. She is a mother of three and enjoys riding the motorcycle with her husband in her spare time.

Kathy has been with our office for more than ten years. She is our lead frame stylist and has a great eye for what looks good on our patients. She is very personable and knows most of our patients by their first names. She is married and a mother of four. She loves shopping and spending time with her family.

Lauren has been with our office for a few years and has a natural ability to perfectly style our patients. She is excellent with our patients and is very knowledgeable with lens choices. Lauren is a mother of two boys, and she loves the Clemson Tigers!

Tonya is our lead ophthalmic technician. She is very thoughtful and great with our patients. With her invaluable experience and knowledge in our industry and contact lenses for more than ten years, she is able to answer almost any contact lens-related questions. Tonya loves to repurpose furniture in her spare time with her husband and loves to stay active.

Nicole is our ophthalmic technician and has a great personality. She is very sweet and loves working with our patients. Nicole does sculpting in her spare time and her baking is absolutely the best!
